| Customs Officer O. S. Clewlo |
Mr. O. S. Clewlo is an officer in Her Majesty's customs of the Dominion who is well-known to travellers on the boats of the Niagara Navigation Company. During the summer months he is the officer who "passes" baggage aboard the big steamer Chippewa and his chalked "C" is always in evidence at Lewiston and Toronto when the passengers disembark.
Mr. Clewlo was born in Kingston in 1861, where he grew up, and in the schools of that city he was educated. When he was seventeen years of age, in 1878, he removed to Toronto and was for thirteen years with two of Toronto's large wholesale houses. He entered the customs house in Toronto in 1892, and has been in the employ of the Dominion Government ever since - one of its most indefatigable officers. When the boats go into winter quarters he is transferred to the customs office at the corner of Front and Yonge streets.
