1   Canal. The canal commissioners were John Aikman, Wm. Chisholm and Wm. Applegarth. John Chisholm was appointed
2   at York and dated 21 April 1827 stated that Wm. Chisholm's three vessels, MOHAWK CHIEF, GENERAL BROCK and
3   days later, Hamilton's first shipowner, Wm. Chisholm, [page 15] penned a notice and took it to the
4   CONSTITUTION, listed above, was built by William Chisholm at Oakville, and seems to be the first vessel
5   built in 1837 were the BURLINGTON, launched at Wm. Chisholm's shipyard in Oakville, and the EXPERIMENT, built
6   canal by that enterprising and worthy gentleman, William Chisholm, Esq., M.P.P." To quote further from the Gazette,
