In order to put the minds of our readers in the right mood to begin making their winter lay-up lists for inclusion in our February issue, Ye Ed. went through his own personal logbooks and chose a few interesting items from his listings for the winter of 1956-1957, when there were a good many more lake vessels operating than there are today. Now, as you undoubtedly have perused the listings very carefully, we have a couple of questions for you. It should be possible to pick out the names of seven vessels that today could be found on the Toronto waterfront in one form or another. Which are they?

Then, excluding tugs, you should be able to identify three ships which saw at least some active service (such as it might be) during the 1987 season. All three were steam powered back in 1956, although two of them no longer are, and all three have been renamed in the interim. Look for the answers in the February issue.

Now that we have had some fun with our list and the little quiz, we must get serious and remind you that we really do need your help with the lay-up lists for the current winter. Once navigation has ended, please note the names of all ships wintering at your local port(s) and send them to us. We would like to have a list for each and every lake and river port to be presented for the record in the February issue. May we count on your assistance?
