Members who do not already possess a copy would do well to acquire "Last Passage Thru The Ice", a video by T.M.H.S. member Carl Kriegeskotte. Produced and filmed by Carl, and written by Conrad Milster, the tape shows BIRCHGLEN downbound in the Welland Canal on her icy last trip of the 1985 season. The film, of superb photo and sound quality, not only has exterior and deck views of the 1927-built steamer, but also features pilothouse and engineroom sequences, and several segments of on-the-job interview with BIRCHGLEN's master and T.M.H.S. friend, the late Capt. Jack Hartley. The film is all the more valuable in view of the recent sale for scrapping of BIRCHGLEN.

In January, Carl will have available another video, "90 Years on the Lakes", a trip aboard the 1898-built cement carrier E. M. FORD with views of her big quadruple-expansion engine. The film will also feature coverage of the Christmas Eve storm of 1979 which sank the FORD at her Milwaukee dock and very nearly ended her long career.

To order either film, address Carl Kriegeskotte, P.O. Box 692, Mount Kisco, New York 10549, U.S.A., specifying whether VHS or BETA format required. Each half-hour video is $39.95. U.S. residents may send cheque or money order, New York State residents adding local sales tax. Canadians are asked to remit by postal money order in U.S. funds.
