Last issue, we reported that the former Lake Ontario ro/ro ferry LAKESPAN ONTARIO had been sold to a British firm, Cenargo Ltd., and renamed MERCHANT NAVIGATOR. We have two conflicting reports on the present status of the vessel. One is that her owner decided not to rename her and laid her up at Glasgow. The other is that she has been chartered for an extended period of service to the Falkland Islands.

One by one, the former Branch Lines tankers, now operated by Societe Sofati Soconav, have been receiving their new stack design, with the letter 'B' in the design being replaced by an 'S'. So far, only one of the tankers has been renamed, that being the new L'ERABLE NO. 1 which, as previously reported, is now HUBERT GAUCHER. Nevertheless, we have heard rumours to the effect that more renames may be forthcoming.
